Job summary

NW Natural is seeking Construction Interns in the Sherwood, Oregon area. The program starts as a Construction Intern Level 1 with a potential move to Level 2 after 3 months, followed by opportunities for full-time roles upon completion.

Day-to-day involves hand-on construction work, safety, and teamwork on utility mains and services. This limited-term full-time internship offers wage progression from an hourly starting rate of 20.60 with advancement to 22.60, and exposure to a broad range of

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge, skills, and ability in field construction methodology.
• Ability to learn tools and mechanized equipment such as backhoe, mini excavator, bore machine, dump trucks, and jack hammer.
• Ability to learn proper digging techniques.
• Manual dexterity adequate to effectively use basic tools including hand tools and power tools.
• Basic math and reading skills.
• Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
• Ability to interface with employees and customers with tact and diplomacy.
• Capacity to perform physically demanding work for 8+ hours.
• Ability to hear normal voice at 3 feet and warning signals.
• Near/distant vision for driving and reading information.
• Exposure to uneven surfaces, noise, vibration, high-speed machinery, and odorant inhalation.
• Must be able to lift a maximum of 100 lbs.
• Must be clean shaven.
• Ability to work overtime and travel outside location.
• Subject to random drug testing.
• National Career Readiness Certificate Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor functions under supervision.
• Learns basic construction skills as part of a crew.
• Assists in installation, lowering, maintenance and replacement of mains and services.
• Works in safe work zone with traffic flagging and signing.
• Operates around heavy equipment (backhoe, mini excavator, bore machine, dump trucks, jack hammer).
• Wear protective equipment and safety gear as required.
• Follows supervisory instructions and adapts to changing conditions.
• Maintains punctual, regular attendance.
• Upholds NW Natural core values and policies.
