Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks Construction Inspectors to ensure road and bridge projects meet DOTD standards. No prior inspection experience required; training is provided and opportunities for advancement exist on the Construction Inspector job series.

These outdoor, physically active roles involve working in varying weather, possible night shifts, and coordinating with contractors.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; or six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, and related construction activities
• Review and document material deliveries and quantities (including haul tickets and load tickets)
• Perform measurements, field checks, and routine tests under supervision
• Observe contractor work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including field notes, diaries, test reports, and estimates
• Enter construction project data into required systems (e.g., Site Manager or other DOTD applications)
• Participate in required training and structured certification programs
• Support public interaction and coordination during construction activities, as needed
• Assist with emergency or disaster response activities when required
