Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) in Vernon Parish is recruiting Construction Inspectors to support road, bridge, and drainage projects. No prior inspection experience is required as training is provided, with opportunities for career progression through the Construction Inspector series.

This outdoor, physically active role may involve traffic exposure, varied weather, extended workdays, night work, and schedule changes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, and related construction activities.
• Review and document material deliveries and quantities (haul tickets and load tickets).
• Perform measurements, field checks, and routine tests under supervision.
• Observe contractor work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including field notes, diaries, test reports, and estimates.
• Enter construction project data into required systems (e.g., Site Manager or other DOTD applications).
• Participate in required training and structured certification programs.
• Support public interaction and coordination during construction activities, as needed.
