Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks Construction Inspectors to support roadway, bridge and drainage projects across Madison Parish. This outdoor, physically active role involves field inspections, documentation, and coordination with contractors.

No prior construction inspection experience is required; training and career progression are provided, with multiple inspector levels and competitive state benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, and related construction activities.
• Review and document material deliveries and quantities (haul tickets and load tickets).
• Perform measurements, field checks, and routine tests under supervision.
• Observe contractor work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including field notes, diaries, test reports, and estimates.
• Enter construction project data into required systems (e.g., SiteManager or other DOTD applications).
• Participate in required training and structured certification programs;
• Support public interaction and coordination during construction activities, as needed.
• Assist with emergency or disaster response activities when required.
