Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an experienced Construction Inspector to support DOTD Project Engineers on roadway, bridge, and drainage projects in St. Martin Parish, District 03 / Unit 233.

This outdoor, physically active role involves field inspections, materials observation, and construction documentation on active projects. Appointment is Promotion or Detail to Special Duty for current permanent DOTD employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus four years of construction inspection or related experience.
• Six months of sub-professional engineering experience plus four years in construction inspection or related experience.
• Twenty-four semester hours in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or related fields.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology.
• Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Responsibilities

• Lead workers by organizing and training lower-level construction inspectors.
• Conduct and oversee field inspections, surveying and measurement documentation.
• Provide guidance in the inspection of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement and other pavements.
• Implement and monitor materials sampling and density testing procedures.
• Assigns and schedules inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance.
• Review inspection reports and documentation for accuracy.
• Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, utility companies, and local government to minimize disruptions.
• Review plans and specifications for project progress and resolve discrepancies.
• Perform engineering calculations, data collection and layout for roadway/bridge projects.
