Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking a Construction Inspector 1–4 in Louisiana’s Construction Section. You will inspect projects, verify measurements, perform field tests, and prepare reports while upholding project specifications and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
• Six months of experience in sub‑professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with departmental standards, project specifications, and quality requirements.
• Serve as lead inspector in the absence of the Construction Inspector 5 and assist with project coordination.
• Monitor contractor procedures, signage, and Equal Employment Opportunity compliance.
• Perform field testing (e.g., soil densification using nuclear density machine, pavement profile evaluations).
• Take and verify project measurements; calculate and record quantities for project documentation.
• Compile contractor payment summaries and prepare/review project diaries and records.
• Gather field information for project changes and maintain positive public relations.
• Provide on-the-job training in areas of certification.
• Write haul tickets and manage other required project paperwork.
• Perform office duties such as indexing, labeling, validating quantities, and preparing documentation for audit.
• Use departmental computer systems and engineering applications as needed.
• Support project design by collecting field data, preparing sketches, and calculating quantities.
• Contribute to overall Construction Office operations and assist with emergency/disaster response activities when required.
