Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Engineering Department in Hackettstown, NJ. This role supports land development and municipal infrastructure projects by monitoring field activities, documenting progress, and ensuring work meets approved plans and standards.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of construction inspection experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to travel to multiple project sites.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in construction inspection or observation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with field reporting or construction management software.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple project sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect construction activities for land development and municipal infrastructure projects, including site grading, roadway improvements, water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, and stormwater management facilities.
• Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, local regulations, and applicable engineering standards.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, site conditions, installed quantities, workforce/equipment on site, and overall project progress.
• Track and verify installed quantities to support payment applications, cost tracking, and project documentation.
• Capture and maintain photographic documentation of construction progress, milestones, and field conditions.
• Serve as a field liaison between contractors, municipal clients, utility agencies, and the design team to support communication and resolve field issues.
• Attend construction progress meetings and provide updates on work status, schedule adherence, and field challenges.
• Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements.
• Assist with review of shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders as directed by project engineers or managers.
• Monitor project schedules and proactively communicate potential delays or impacts to project management.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and report unsafe conditions or practices observed in the field.
• Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and other stakeholders during active construction operations.
• Support project closeout activities, including punch list development, final walkthroughs, and as-built documentation.
