Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) seeks a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Engineering Department in Hackettstown, NJ. You will monitor field activities, document progress, and help ensure work complies with plans, specs, permits, and standards.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of construction methods, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, clients, agencies, and project teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in construction inspection or observation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with field reporting software.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple project sites.

Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect construction activities for land development and municipal projects.
• Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and standards.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting site conditions and progress.
• Track installed quantities to support payment applications and project documentation.
• Capture and maintain photographic documentation of construction progress and field conditions.
• Serve as a field liaison between contractors, municipal clients, utility agencies, and the design team.
• Attend construction progress meetings and provide updates on work status and field challenges.
• Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project specifications and standards.
• Assist with review of shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders as directed by project engineers or managers.
• Monitor project schedules and communicate potential delays or impacts to project management.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and report unsafe conditions or practices observed.
• Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and other stakeholders during active construction.
• Support project closeout activities, including punch list development and as-built documentation.
