Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking Construction Inspectors to support field inspections, materials observation, and documentation on active road, bridge, and drainage projects. Training is provided with opportunities for career progression.

This outdoor, physically active role may involve exposure to traffic, varying weather, long days, night work, and changing schedules.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR six months of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, and related construction activities.
• Review and document material deliveries and quantities (haul tickets and load tickets).
• Perform measurements, field checks, and routine tests under supervision.
• Observe contractor work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and provisions.
• Maintain accurate project documentation including field notes, diaries, test reports, and estimates.
• Enter construction project data into required systems (e.g., SiteManager or other DOTD applications).
• Participate in required training and certification programs; support public interaction during construction activities.
• Assist with emergency or disaster response activities when required.
