Job summary

BKF Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections in California, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and permits.

You will report to the Resident Engineer or Agency PM, conduct field tests, take material samples, and document daily activities. Candidates should have a college degree or 5+ years in civil/transportation projects, 4+ years in supervision/inspection, and a valid CA driver's license.

Qualifications

• College degree or 5+ years of civil/transportation project experience.
• 4+ years supervising or inspecting engineering construction work and reading complex plans.
• Valid California Class C driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects.
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of variances from plans.
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in field tests or samples for lab analysis.
• Checks location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Checks roadway/ slope/ structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures.
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety.
• Inspects earthwork grading, asphalt concrete placement, proportions, and mix control.
• Inspects delivery, placing, curing of concrete and placement of reinforcing steel.
• Assists PM in review of submittals, RFIs, CCOs.
• Verifies acceptability of materials via certificates, shop drawings, and test reports.
• Maintains material and inspection records; daily diary and photo log.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

College degree or 5+ years' civil/transportation project experience

EIT or PE license
