Job description

Take the next step in your telecommunications career with a hands‑on leadership opportunity overseeing fiber optic network maintenance and construction operations. Lead an experienced field crew while staying hands‑on, from aerial and underground fiber construction to network repairs and infrastructure improvements. Enjoy a primarily daytime schedule, competitive salary, and the autonomy to manage daily operations, backed by accessible leadership and established HR resources.

The Field Communications Construction Manager will oversee daily fiber network maintenance, outside plant (OSP) construction, and capital improvement projects while leading approximately 10–12 field professionals. This role combines 60% hands‑on field operations with 40% administrative and management responsibilities, including crew scheduling, project coordination, reporting, and performance oversight. Ideal for an experienced OSP Construction Supervisor, Telecom Line Foreman, or Fiber Maintenance Supervisor ready to take on broader leadership responsibilities while remaining actively involved in field operations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead daily fiber optic maintenance, outside plant (OSP) construction, and capital improvement activities.
  • Supervise approximately 10–12 field employees, assigning work, coordinating schedules, and monitoring performance.
  • Oversee aerial and underground fiber construction, lashing, rerouting, damage repairs, and network maintenance.
  • Work alongside field crews when additional hands‑on assistance is needed.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs, service restoration, and storm‑related network response activities.
  • Monitor project progress, crew productivity, safety practices, and construction quality.
  • Plan labor assignments, equipment needs, and field resources to meet operational priorities.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, work schedules, maintenance records, and operational reports.
  • Use Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and related applications for scheduling, reporting, and communication.
  • Coordinate with leadership and internal departments to resolve field issues and maintain project timelines.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities while maintaining a consistent presence at active jobsites.
Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience with telecommunications line crews and fiber optic construction required.
  • Experience as a Telecom Line Foreman, OSP Construction Supervisor, Fiber Maintenance Supervisor, or comparable field leader.
  • Working knowledge of aerial and underground fiber construction, lashing, rerouting, damage repairs, and network maintenance.
  • Experience supervising field personnel, coordinating crew schedules, and assigning construction or maintenance activities.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork alongside crews when necessary, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams, and computer‑based scheduling and reporting.
  • Experience maintaining construction documentation, work records, and operational reports.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications construction safety practices and field operations.
  • Military leadership experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work onsite in Houston, with flexibility for occasional after‑hours emergencies, outages, storms, and major projects.
