Job summary

Atlas Energy Solutions in West Texas is seeking a Commissioning Technician II to execute commissioning activities on natural gas fleets, BESS, and power distribution systems. You will own end-to-end test packages, lead engine startup, and support black-start operations on off-grid plants.

The role requires 3–5 years of experience in commissioning of power systems, with strong troubleshooting, electrical test skills, and willingness to travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of commissioning, construction, or maintenance experience.
• Hands-on experience with natural gas or reciprocating engine generation, switchgear, transformers, or related power equipment.
• Experience with engine startup, fuel gas systems, load bank testing, or engine controls.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, P&IDs, and vendor docs.
• Proficiency with commissioning and electrical test equipment; able to interpret results independently.
• Strong troubleshooting skills; able to find root causes.
• Willingness to travel to project sites, including overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Perform functional testing, energization, synchronization, and system validation on assigned equipment.
• Lead engine startup and first fire activities on natural gas units; verify pre-start and checks.
• Own commissioning packages end to end including test planning, execution, and turnover.
• Conduct load bank testing and load-share tuning across multiple units; support emissions testing.
• Commission BESS and inverter-based equipment; verify communications and charge/discharge testing.
• Support island mode and black start commissioning; verify sequencing and stability.
• Produce accurate test reports, punch lists, and turnover documentation.
• Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
