Job summary

City of Chesapeake seeks a qualified social services professional to support assigned programs. Requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field; a master’s degree is required for some programs; a valid driver’s license is required.

Candidates should have at least two years of related experience and be prepared to obtain QMHP or QIDP certification within specified timeframes; CPR/First Aid and medication administration certifications may be required within 3

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• May require hours beyond normal schedule during emergencies or special departmental needs. Emergency operations support may occur at locations outside normal duties.

Required Qualifications

Vocational/Educational Requirement: Requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field or other degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions. A master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Rehabilitation is required for some assigned programs.

Experience: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Requires a Qualified Mental Health Professional ( QMHP ) or Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional ( QIDP ) certification and highest Part C standards within 6 months of hire; CPR , First Aid and medication administration certifications within 3 months of hire, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor ( CSAC ) certification upon hire, Case Management Modules and Intellectual Disabilities Workbook completed within thirty days of hire, Part C Early Intervention Certification within six months of hire, and/or Pre-Screening Certification within 6 weeks of hire (12 weeks for part-time staff).

Special Requirements: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling or a closely related field, or other Human services degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
• Experience in Assertive Community Treatment ( ACT )
• Experience with supported employment and vocational training
• Experience with providing case management services
