Job summary

Baltimore County Government is seeking a Capital Construction Inspector to oversee large construction and major renovations across county facilities. You will monitor progress, verify quantities, and manage communications with contractors and engineers.

Travel to multiple project sites is required, with emphasis on safety, contract adherence, and accurate reporting. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six years in construction or related inspection fields.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent, plus six years’ experience in construction, commercial construction inspection, or a closely related field.
• Additional education in engineering, construction technology, or a related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, oversees and inspects large new construction and major renovation related to buildings, roads, site work, utilities, and other public facilities.
• Monitors, verifies, and documents the progress of projects.
• Prepares reports of construction activities.
• Calculates and documents material quantities used on jobs.
• Ensures that payments to contractors correspond to contract terms.
• Travels between project sites located throughout the County.
• Meets with contractors, developers, representatives of other agencies, and others to resolve issues which arise during construction.
• Works with project managers and management to authorize minor change orders.
• Informs the project manager of potential changes to the project.
• Participates in pre-construction meetings with contractors.
• Reviews and interprets project plans and contract specifications.
• Enforces traffic control and traffic safety regulations at project sites.
• Verifies the percentage of work completed with the project manager to create schedule of values.
• Recommends acceptance of completed work.
• Creates and maintains a punch out list with engineers and consultants.
• Trains new employees as needed.
