Job summary

TPD in Pennsylvania is seeking experienced Certified Bridge Safety Inspectors to support multiple offices, including Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. The role requires at least 2 years of experience, a strong work ethic, and ability to work collaboratively on several projects.

Duties include planning inspections, reviewing plans, inspecting bridge components for NBIS/FHWA compliance, assigning ratings, and entering data into PennDOT’s BMS3.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is desirable but not required.
• Certified Bridge Inspector (CBI) or willingness to complete a 3-week training and pass the test to become a CBI.
• Willingness and ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather and year-round; inspections may occur day or night.
• Ability to navigate bridge structures, rugged terrain, heights, and work near traffic.
• Willingness to travel within PA; travel time is paid.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and preparation of bridge inspections; collect reports/data, gather equipment, coordinate inspection routes.
• Review and interpret plans and site layouts to obtain information about bridges.
• Inspect bridge superstructures/substructures, approach roadways, safety features, and compliance with NBIS and FHWA metrics.
• Assign Condition and Appraisal ratings to bridge components per agency guidelines.
• Collect inspection data and enter into PennDOT’s BMS3 Bridge Management.
