Cleaver-Brooks Sales & Service, Inc. (CBSS) is seeking a Field Boilermaker & Pressure Vessel Assembler in the San Antonio area. You will interpret blueprints, assemble boilers and pressure vessels, and install piping and burners at customer sites with precision, using hand and power tools, and verifying assemblies to spec.

This role emphasizes safety, working at heights, and tight tolerances. You’ll troubleshoot, test, and commission systems, coordinate with other trades, and maintain equipment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and 3D assemblies.
• Work to tight tolerances and visualize complex boiler layouts.
• Knowledge of general safety practices (LOTO) and working at heights.

Responsibilities

• Assemble boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels per blueprint specs.
• Interpret drawings to determine part placement.
• Join tubes, mount casings, and install burners and accessories.
• Pressure-test systems and monitor gauges for leaks.
• Troubleshoot and replace defective components or piping.
• Lay out, fabricate, install, and maintain boiler piping systems.

Shape heat and pressure into performanceStart your day at our San Antonio branch, load up, and head out to customer sites across the area. As a Field Boilermaker & Pressure Vessel Assembler with Cleaver-Brooks Sales & Service (CBSS), you turn blueprints into working boiler systems—building, piping, and testing with precision and care.Location: San Antonio, TXWhat you’ll do in the fieldAssemble boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels per blueprint specifications using both power and hand tools.Interpret drawings to determine part placement and relationships.Join fire tubes to heads or water tubes to drums and headers by expanding and belling tube ends with a tube expander; bead tube ends using a power hammer.Drill and tap holes to receive studs using a portable drill.Build frames and tighten bolted connections with hand or power wrenches.Mount casings on water-tube boilers and attach davit heads, burners, or furnace casings on fire-tube boilers.Install accessories—man-holes, hand-holes, fans, gauges, and valves—using hand tools or power wrenches.Troubleshoot and replace defective components or piping using wrenches, prybars, and related tools.Install or repair refractory brick or furnace tile when required.Thread and install pipe using a pipe wrench and dies as needed.Remove and replace insulation; caulk seams to restore insulation on shells, piping, boiler fire-sides, or structures.Cut out failed parts, boiler tubes, or tube ends with an acetylene torch.Piping and system build-outLay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain boiler-related piping systems, fixtures, and equipment—threaded, sweated copper, and ProPress.Select pipe types, sizes, and materials based on job specifications.Survey worksites for obstructions and verify that routing preserves structural integrity.Sequence installations to avoid clashes and coordinate around other trades.Cut pipe with hacksaws, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe-cutting machines.Thread pipe using a threading machine.Assemble and install various metal piping and fittings.Secure piping with clamps, brackets, and hangers.Pressure-test systems and monitor gauges to identify leaks.What you bringEducation: High school diploma or equivalent (required).Technical mindset: Work to tight tolerances, make data-driven decisions, and visualize 3D assemblies from plans.Physical ability: Skilled hand work; lift and carry up to 50 lbs; good vision (with correction if needed); comfortable on ladders and scaffolds; able to stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch.Environment-ready: Willing and able to work at heights and in confined spaces with company-provided safety gear.Licensing: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.Safety & work conditionsKnowledge of industrial and commercial safety practices, including general safety fundamentals, lockout/tagout (LOTO), overhead work, confined space entry, and basic electrical safety.Why Cleaver-Brooks Sales & ServiceCompetitive payComprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, maternity support, discounted virtual physician visits, voluntary critical illness, hospital care, accidental injury, FSA, HSA, life, short-term and long-term disability401(k) with cash matchEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Pet insuranceEmployee discount programTuition assistancePaid time off plus 11 paid holidaysWho we areCleaver-Brooks Sales and Service, Inc.
