Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, Massachusetts is seeking an Orientation & Mobility Specialist for a field-based role serving students aged 3 to 21. The 10-month, full-time position offers a signing bonus and relocation assistance for 30+ hours per week.

Salary ranges from $52,015 to $83,308, based on experience, education, and certification status. Starting date is August 24, 2026, with opportunities for summer hours and Master's degree candidates to be considered.

Qualifications

• We’re seeking a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist who is passionate about helping blind and visually impaired students build confidence, safety, and independence.
• Compassion, patience and mission-driven approach; teamwork with families and educators.
• Experience with evaluating needs and documenting goals in education programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Orientation & Mobility assessments focusing on client needs over time.
• Provide consultation to families, educators, and other professionals; recommend adaptations.
• Instruct in skills to travel independently according to IEP or program plans.
• Teach indoor/outdoor travel, use of public transport, and navigation in varied environments.
• Work in schools, homes and community settings; document progress and recommend tools.
• Maintain written progress reports and tool recommendations.
