Job summary

Peraton is seeking a full-time background investigator to operate near Washington, DC. Applicants must reside within 25 miles of the city center of Washington, DC.

The Investigator will complete a 6–7 week training to be certified under Federal Investigative Standards, travel daily for in-person investigations, conduct interviews, perform record searches, and compile concise reports using government systems.

Qualifications

• 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor's degree; federal background investigations experience preferred.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance; active federal background with T5 adjudication preferred.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Daily travel locally and outside primary work area as needed.
• Home office required.
• Some TDY/remote travel 14–30 days may be required.
• Must reside within the stated mileage requirement of the job description.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; driving is an essential function; MVR may be checked.
• Required to carry sufficient motor vehicle insurance.
• Accurate typing and ability to work across multiple computer programs.
• Able to speak and write clearly; high level of accuracy in records.
• Professional attire; confidentiality and integrity essential.
• Ability to lift/move up to 10 pounds; climb stairs and endure long periods of standing.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete a full-time, 6-7 week Investigator training to be certified in Federal Investigative Standards.
• Travel daily when conducting in-person background investigations to determine employment suitability for access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.
• Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends and family.
• Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities.
• Type and report all obtained information in a clear report on government systems.
• Work independently while being part of a team of Investigators and with a Field Manager.
