Job summary

Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) seeks a CPI Alternative Response Specialist Trainee for field-based investigations in the Aransas Pass area. This role involves mobile work away from a fixed office, handling urgent safety concerns, interviewing children and families, coordinating with schools and law enforcement, and maintaining rigorous documentation.

The position emphasizes flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to travel up to 85% statewide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree OR equivalent for Specialist I–IV.

Responsibilities

• Determines causes of abuse/neglect to assess current or future risk to children by gathering information from parents and others; interviewing and examining children; assessing home environment.
• Collaborates with families to determine strengths, needs and actions to reduce immediate threats; testifies in court; refers for crisis intervention or other resources.
• Enters contact, documentation and narratives into the agency system within required time frames.
• Develops and maintains relationships with families, CPS staff, law enforcement and judicial partners to achieve positive outcomes.
• Attends training/meetings and performs other duties as assigned to support unit operations.
