Job summary

Francis O. Day Co. Inc. is seeking an Asphalt Raker to support paving operations in Rockville, MD. This hands-on role shapes, levels, and finishes asphalt to meet project specs, working behind the paver and coordinating with operators and foremen on a daily basis.

The position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of asphalt behavior. Field-based work covers roadway, commercial, and industrial projects with emphasis on safety and productivity.

Qualifications

• Must have 1–3+ years as an Asphalt Raker or Asphalt Laborer on paving crews.
• Working knowledge of asphalt paving operations, including material behavior and compaction.
• Ability to use rakes, lutes, shovels, and hand tools efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Rake, lute, and shape hot mix asphalt to achieve proper grade and mat thickness.
• Work behind the paver to correct surface imperfections and joints.
• Assist with asphalt handwork around utilities, curbs, edges, and confined areas.
