Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Archaeology Technician based in Austin, Texas. This temporary role involves supporting field programs with data collection and analysis, requiring the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and rugged terrain.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of archaeological excavations and hold an Associate’s degree in a related field. Extensive travel for fieldwork is required, alongside the completion of safety training and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Ability to travel extensively for fieldwork.
• Conduct fieldwork under varying weather conditions.
• Perform archaeological shovel test excavation and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Assist with data collection and analysis for field programs.
• Record and evaluate soils and artifacts following standard collection procedures.
• Serve as laboratory assistant when work is available indoors.

Skills

Experience with GPS

Knowledge of Phase I, II, and III archaeological excavations/assessments

Ability to work under varied weather conditions

Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours

Industry-specific safety training certificates

Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Archaeological field experience in the Great Plains region

Education

Associate’s degree or technical school diploma/certificate in archaeology/anthropology

Bachelor’s degree preferred
