Job summary

BGE, Inc is seeking a Field Archaeologist for a temporary, project-based assignment in Houston, TX. The role focuses on phase one surveys, shovel testing, and documentation across Texas and surrounding regions.

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or archaeology, demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, and be comfortable with GPS/tablet data collection. Travel to other sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or archaeology; field school experience considered.
• Solid organizational skills and proficiency in data entry and report documentation.
• Strong time-management, written communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
• Professional presence with the ability to make sound decisions in field and office settings.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable using tablets and GPS technology for field data collection; GIS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct phase one surveys, pedestrian surveys, and shovel testing.
• Assist with excavation and trenching in Texas and nearby regions.
• Document field data using tablets, GPS, and maintain photo logs.
• Support report preparation, background research, and site documentation.
• Collaborate with project leads to ensure regulatory compliance and data quality.
• Participate in fieldwork under mentorship with crew chiefs.
• Communicate findings clearly to project managers and team members.
• Adhere to safety protocols and travel within Texas and other states as needed.
