Job summary

SEARCH has an immediate opening for Full-Time Archaeologists to join our Terrestrial Archaeology division for opportunities in Arizona and New Mexico. Selected candidates must be based in one of the two states at time of hire and hold permits for BLM lands, State Lands, ASM, or other such agencies.

Preference given to candidates with Secretary of the Interior Qualifications in Archaeology. In addition to local projects, archaeologists will participate in SEARCH projects across the country.

Qualifications

• Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
• Preference: SOI qualifications for archaeology.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to health and safety plans and assist trainings.
• Conduct monitoring, survey, testing, and excavation for Phase I–III studies.
• Record accurate field notes, maps, drawings, and documentation.
• Collect and inventory artifacts and samples per the research design.
• Identify potential human remains and handle respectfully per guidelines.
• Perform quality control of field data daily.
• Use GPS and navigational tools to determine project limits and document progress.
• Photo-document artifacts, features, and sites.
• Procure and maintain field equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate with landowners, clients, and regulatory staff.
• Travel for extended periods.
