Job summary

Morongo Band of Mission Indians is seeking an on-call Archaeologist to support Tribal Historic Preservation efforts in Banning, California. The role involves field investigations, project coordination, artifact curation, and reporting under the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer's direction.

The ideal candidate holds a 4-year degree in Archaeology or Anthropology (Master’s preferred) with at least two years of related experience, knowledge of Southern California archaeology, and strong writing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology; Master’s degree preferred.
• At least two years of archaeology experience with survey, data recovery, site evaluation testing, construction monitoring and report writing.
• Substantive knowledge of the archaeology of Southern California.
• RPA certification preferred.
• Demonstrated writing and research abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of CHRIS system and GPS data collection equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations of historic and prehistoric archaeological sites.
• Manage coordination of projects and oversee artifact collection and curation.
• Identify, record, interpret, analyze, and facilitate formal testing of archaeological materials, sites, features, and artifacts.
• Develop drafts and share results with MBMI entities.
