Job description

Our client is seeking a flexible On-Call Cultural Resources Field Technician/Field Archaeologist.

Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct archaeological pedestrian surveys, shovel testing, auger probes, screening, and soil deposit descriptions.
  2. Document archaeological and historic resources, including accurate field notes, soil profiles, and sketch maps.
  3. Complete site forms, narrative descriptions, and contribute to reports as needed.
  4. Photo-document artifacts, features, and site locations using a digital camera, maintaining an accurate photo log.
  5. Perform basic artifact analysis in the field.
  6. Consult with the field supervisor on issues and developments.
Additional Responsibilities:

Cultural resources surveys, GPS use, field documentation, and potentially data analysis, GIS, and reporting for qualified individuals.

Work Details:

Travel: 100% field assignment. Workweek: Variable on-call, typically six 10-hour days per week during field assignments. Meals and lodging are paid on days off.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, History, Museum Studies, or related field; archaeological field school preferred.
  • 0-2 years' experience or relevant coursework in archaeology or anthropology.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of survey and excavation techniques; ability to process artifacts and complete forms.
  • Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including excavation, walking long distances, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Basic knowledge of GIS and Microsoft applications is helpful.
  • Flexibility to travel overnight, including out-of-state for at least 10 days.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with cultural resource laws (Section 106, NEPA).
  • Experience with cultural resource surveys and artifact analysis.
  • Experience with GPS data collection is a plus.
