Job summary

The City of Carlsbad seeks qualified Tree Trimmer I/II to join its Parks & Recreation team. You will prune, trim, and remove trees, operate equipment like chain saws and stump grinders, and respond to emergencies to keep city streets and parks safe.

Entry-level Tree Trimmer I or journey-level Tree Trimmer II positions require adherence to safety practices, physical stamina for heavy manual work, and the ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of twelfth grade or equivalent.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class A or B Driver's License within six months.

Responsibilities

• Provide exemplary customer service and maintain a positive environment.
• Participate in tree pruning and removal; chip branches as needed; clean work sites.
• Set up and remove traffic and pedestrian safety devices as needed.
• Maintain and care for street and park trees to ensure public safety; prune trees to keep streets and sidewalks clear.
• Remove dead trees and fallen limbs; remove overgrown roots to preserve hardscapes.
• Operate equipment including chain saw, stump grinder, brush chipper, loader, aerial lift, and hand tools.
• Ensure safe work practices and procedures; respond to emergencies.
• Assist in planting trees; perform tree-related duties as needed.
