Job summary

Astronics Test Systems is seeking a Field Applications Engineer to join our Customer Support team. This role supports software and hardware used to perform functional and diagnostic testing of UUTs, and involves working remotely and at customer locations.

The engineer will modify, test, and optimize test system applications, troubleshoot software/hardware issues, and provide customer-specific solutions, training, and demonstrations. Training on products and processes is provided.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated software development experience using languages such as C, C++, C#, Python, LabVIEW, TestStand or comparable technologies.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including root-cause analysis of software/hardware/system-performance issues.
• Excellent written, verbal, and customer-facing communication, with ability to train customers.
• Experience using electronic test/diagnostic equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators).
• Ability to interpret technical docs: software requirements, schematics, wiring diagrams, interface docs, troubleshooting procedures.
• Ability to travel up to 60% and work nonstandard hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain knowledge of Astronics test systems, hardware, software, interfaces, and UUT apps.
• Assemble, configure, calibrate, install, and commission test systems at ATS and customer sites.
• Diagnose and repair system hardware; integrate new hardware to support software/firmware changes.
• Modify and optimize existing test system software to address deficiencies and requirements.
• Develop test applications, sequences, and diagnostic routines (remote or on-site).
• Collaborate with Engineering to reproduce issues, resolve deficiencies, and validate code changes.
• Provide remote and on-site customer support, training, and demonstrations.
• Support installations, customer acceptance, demonstrations, and product presentations.
