Overview:
Biolog is a leader in microbial identification, phenotypic cell profiling, and metabolic fingerprinting for
microbial and mammalian cells. Located in Hayward, CA, the company’s products enable the identification
of thousands of species of bacteria, yeast, and fungi as well as characterization of human cells and
mitochondria. Biolog products are available worldwide, either directly from the company or through its
extensive network of international distributors.
Most recently Biolog expended it offerings with the acquisition of Anaerobe Systems to offer Anaerobic
Chambers and TruPRAS specialty media. In an earlier acquisition Biolog also performs identifications
through DNA-Sequencing and MALDI-TOF at its Newark, DE location. Biolog Inc. has the strong
investment backing of both BroadOak Investments and Research Corporation Technologies (RTC), who
specialize in life sciences tools investments. Biolog is looking to expand its current cellular analysis product
offerings while remaining committed to supporting its current customers in many diverse markets.
Biolog is hiring for its Field Applications Team in North America serving the Western half of the United
States and Canada with a preferred location in the San Francisco Bay area for regular ability to commute
into either the Hayward or Morgan Hill locations. Other locations may be considered on a case-by-case
basis, but only in the Western half of the United States. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to
enable our sales team to sell all the Biolog products including microbial ID, Phenotype MicroArray,
mammalian products, as well as Anaerobic Chambers by providing their knowledge and technical support
to the sales process. This individual will report to the VP of Sales, North America and will work with the
sales team on primarily pre-sales support questions, technical presentations, software, on-site product
demonstrations as well as presenting the data from the resulting demonstrations. Post-sales support will
be expected for technical customer questions, training, and on-site installations of instrumentation.
The ideal candidate should be passionate about serving customer needs and well versed in microbial
biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. This individual should have a strong interest in research and be able
to support Biolog customers in the field after appropriate training. Overnight travel is estimated to be
between 20-40% and is location dependent.

Requirements
Responsibilities:
• Support the sale and use of Biolog cellular analysis products
• Work with the sales team to maintain and grow product usage by conducting technical
presentations, product support and seminars
• Work with sales to conduct product demonstrations for prospective customers and present
acquired data on short timelines
• Perform laboratory work in support of Biolog applications
• Provide end user training to customers at Biolog and on-site when necessary
• Provide on-going workflow development support and troubleshooting for customers in-person,
via phone or email as needed
• Develop and maintain customer satisfaction in the assigned territory knowing you are there to
support their success through our workflows
Qualifications:
• MS degree in microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Ph.D. preferred
• Extensive microbiology knowledge and experience including aerobic and anaerobic bacteria,
yeasts, and filamentous fungi
• Familiar with microbial taxonomy
• Experience with mammalian cell culture; knowledge of mammalian cell biology a plus
• Good knowledge of the biochemical pathways of core metabolism
• 2+ years in customer support, FAS, or related biotech industry roles
• Interest in understanding customers’ needs and helping to relate to Biolog applications
• Experience teaching or training
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills for oral presentations, customer discussions and written technical
reports required
• Ability to work collaboratively and foster professional, constructive relationships as part of a team
while also working independently to produce/ analyze data and meet challenging timelines and
goals
• Ability to travel domestically on a regular basis (20-40%, depending on location)
• Able to work in the United States currently, and without future sponsorship requirements
• Ability to travel to Canada
