Job summary

Synexis Global is looking for its first Field Application Engineer in the United States to be the technical face of the business for customers. You will diagnose across electrical, mechanical, software, firmware and optical domains and know when to loop in the R&D team in Europe.

You’ll get hands-on with firmware and embedded systems (Python and C++), travel to customer sites about 30–40% and write the application notes and training materials to help customers design in the product.

Qualifications

• Experience as field applications, applications, or technical support engineer across multiple disciplines.
• Comfortable engaging with customers and building relationships.
• Experience with optics, displays, photonics, semiconductors or sensing is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

Some of the sharpest displays in the world are smaller than a postage stamp. They sit inside a whole host of applications and put a crisp image in front of your eye even when the light is awful.

One of the industry leaders that makes them is a European organisation, and they're building out their US operations. I'm helping them find their first dedicated Field Application Engineer on the ground here.

This is not a desk job with a support queue. It's the technical face of the business to its US customers - the person engineers actually want to pick up the phone to.

What you'd be doing:

• Being the first port of call when a customer hits a technical problem - diagnosing across electrical, mechanical, software, firmware and optical, fixing what you can in the field and knowing when to loop in the R&D team in Europe.
• Getting hands-on with firmware and embedded systems (Python and C++)
• Getting out to customer sites (roughly 30–40% travel), not just to put out fires but to sit with engineering teams, ask the questions a salesperson wouldn't, and bring the intel back.
• Writing the application notes, training and documentation that make the product easy to design in.

Who We're looking for:

Someone with experience as a field application, applications, or technical support engineer, broad enough across the disciplines to help a customer, and comfortable enough in front of one to build a real relationship. If you've come from optics, displays, photonics, semiconductors or sensing, even better. If you haven't but you can learn it fast, still reach out.

The good bits:

• It's a build-it role. First FAE in the US, so you shape how it works rather than inherit someone else's process.
• Location is flexible. There's an office near Dallas–Fort Worth if you want it, but if you're the right person somewhere else in the US, they'll set you up locally and get the team together roughly once a month at the HQ.
• You'll spend a couple of weeks in Europe early on, learning the products from the people who built them.
