Job summary

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office is hiring a full-time Animal Control Officer in Divide, CO to enforce animal-related laws, patrol for violations, respond to complaints, and ensure public safety and animal welfare. The role includes handling emergency care, reporting, and collaboration with health and other agencies.

Responsibilities cover field duties, investigations, euthanasia in emergencies, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic experience in the care of animals.
  • Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol neighborhoods for dogs in violation of ordinances and respond to complaints.
  • Respond to calls regarding livestock or unusual animals at large or threats to safety.
  • Apprehend and impound stray animals or issue summonses as needed.
  • Respond to citizen requests for pick-up of confined/stray dogs.
  • Facilitate rabies quarantine procedures with health departments.
  • Investigate reports of animal attacks against humans or animals.
  • Respond to injured animals and provide first aid or transport to a vet or shelter.
  • Perform emergency euthanasia in the field and assist in shelter as required.
  • Rescue animals in distress and investigate cruelty, neglect, and abuse.
  • Gather evidence for prosecution and educate the public as needed.
  • Record daily activities and participate in training for efficiency.
  • Take signed complaints and serve officer-initiated complaints when warranted.
  • Secure warrants, attend court, and maintain animal licenses records.
  • Perform other animal control and welfare activities as related to duties.
