Job summary

The City of Baytown is seeking an Animal Control Officer to protect residents and animals, enforce animal-related laws, and respond to diverse community needs. You will promote responsible pet ownership, handle on-call emergency responses, and document casework with accuracy.

The role requires calm, compassionate, and confident professionals who can communicate clearly with the public and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Basic State Certification in Animal Control must be obtained within first year.
  • Euthanasia Certification must be obtained within first year.
  • Ability to handle all types of animals.
  • Ability to work independently, learn quickly, and stay flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional customer service, written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of animal diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce state laws and city ordinances related to rabies control and animal welfare.
  • Respond to animal complaints and rescue operations.
  • Impose citations or warnings as needed and represent the City in related matters.
  • Assist with adoptions, licensing, and record-keeping for LRCA.
  • Maintain sanitation and proper shelter operations; document impounds and investigations.
  • Communicate effectively with public and provide education on animal laws.
