Job summary

City of Baytown, TX is seeking an Animal Control Officer to protect residents and animals by enforcing laws, promoting responsible pet ownership, and handling diverse emergency responses. You will promote safety and compassionate animal welfare while serving the community in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The role requires field work, on-call requirements, and the ability to document casework accurately.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (TX license needed within 90 days).
• Basic State Certification in Animal Control within first year.
• Euthanasia Certification within first year as required by DSHS.
• Ability to handle all types of animals.

Responsibilities

• Field Operations: operate city animal services vehicles, impound roaming or injured animals, respond to animal complaints, educate the public, maintain daily worksheets, and perform euthanasia when necessary.
• Code Enforcement: enforce state rabies laws and city licensing, issue citations or warnings, handle citizen complaints, and present cases in court, with clear written summaries.
• Administration: assist with adoptions and licensing paperwork, enter data in databases, support off-site events, and manage communications in a high-volume environment.
• Shelter Operations: maintain sanitation, feed and water animals, ensure proper identification, manage exercise areas, perform laundry, and provide humane treatment.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.
