Job summary

Mass. Electric Construction Co. seeks a Fiberoptic Superintendent to lead all field operations for installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fiber networks, supervising crews to meet safety, schedule, and budget targets.

Based in Boston, MA or Virginia Beach, VA, you will coordinate with management, engineering, clients, and trade partners to deliver quality, on-time results. This role requires strong leadership and a commitment to safety and collaborative problem-solving.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of telecommunications or fiber optic construction experience.
• 3+ years of supervisory experience leading field crews.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic installation methods, splicing, testing, and termination.
• Experience interpreting construction drawings and specifications, OTDR testing.

Responsibilities

• Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with safety requirements.
• Conduct daily safety meetings, JHAs, and site inspections.
• Identify and mitigate risks and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise all fiber optic construction activities including underground/aerial installations, conduit/duct work, splicing, testing, and commissioning.
• Develop and execute short- and long-term work plans; monitor production rates and schedule impacts.
• Coordinate work with utility owners, contractors, inspectors, and clients.
• Directly supervise foremen, splicers, technicians, and craft personnel.

Position Overview

The Fiberoptic Superintendent is responsible for leading and overseeing all field operations related to fiber optic installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities. This role provides day-to-day supervision of craft personnel, subcontractors, and field crews while ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. The Fiberoptic Superintendent serves as the primary field leader for fiber optic construction activities and collaborates closely with project management, engineering, clients, and other trade partners.

• Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and site inspections.
• Identify and mitigate potential risks and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
• Ensure all craft personnel are trained and equipped to perform work safely.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise all fiber optic construction activities, including:
• Underground and aerial fiber installations
• Conduit and duct bank installation
• Fiber cable pulling and placement
• Fiber splicing and termination
• Testing, certification, and commissioning
• Develop and execute short-term and long-term work plans.
• Monitor production rates and proactively address schedule impacts.
• Coordinate work with utility owners, contractors, inspectors, and clients.
• Directly supervise foremen, splicers, technicians, and craft personnel.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of telecommunications or fiber optic construction experience.
• 3+ years of supervisory experience leading field construction crews.
• Strong understanding of:
• Fiber optic installation methods
• Fiber splicing and testing procedures
• Termination of fiberoptic cables
• Underground and aerial construction practices
• Telecommunications construction standards
• Experience interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with OTDR testing and fiber certification processes.
• Ability to travel and work extended hours as project needs require.

Base Compensation: $145,000/yr - $155,000/yr
