Cogent Communications is seeking a Field Network Engineer to handle all field activity across Cogent's network, installing network elements in data centers, POPs, and hubs, and turning up new customer circuits at Cogent data centers and carrier-neutral facilities.

You'll maintain fiber networks, manage contractors, and work with planning and delivery teams to bring deployments to completion, with 30% travel and a strong focus on DWDM and Ethernet/IP testing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience on telecommunication networks.
• 1+ year field experience in DWDM/IP networks.
• Experience using telecom test equipment: OPM/OTDR/OSA and Ethernet/IP testers.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Energetic self-starter with good interpersonal skills.

Responsabilités

• Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
• Installation of Network Elements within Cogent data centers, POPs, and hubs.
• Turn-up and test new customer circuits at Cogent Data Centers and multitenant buildings; document changes.
• Maintain the Cogent fiber network: locates, maintenance, splicing, restoration, transmission equipment.
• Maintain Cogent Data Centers: facility maintenance, equipment maintenance.
• Manage contractors and vendors.
• Work with Network Planning and Customer Service Delivery to provide field perspective.
• Maintain proficiency in telecommunications infrastructure, fiber, CWDM and DWDM.
• Collaborate with power systems (AC/DC).

Compensation

Starting / Initial Base Salary Pay Range: $54,000 - $90,000.

Specific offers within the listed pay ranges are determined by a variety of factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and business needs.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
• Installation of Network Elements within Cogent Communications locations (Data centers, POPs, Hubs).
• Turn-up and test new customer circuits at Cogent Data Centers, carrier neutral datacenters, and multitenant office buildings, document and communicate changes.
• Responsible for maintaining the Cogent fiber network (locates, maintenance, splicing, emergency restoration, transmission equipment maintenance)
• Responsible for maintaining Cogent Data Centers (facility maintenance, compliance, equipment maintenance)
• Management of contractors and vendors.
• Independent and self-starter.
• Work with Network Planning and Customer Service Delivery to provide Field perspective to network deployment as well as to provide expertise in deployments.
• Maintain proficiency within the telecommunications infrastructure, fiber, CWDM and DWDM technologies.
• Work with AC and DC power systems.

Qualifications

• Travel 30%, 5+ years of experience on telecommunication networks.
• 1+ years of field experience in DWDM and / or IP networks
• Experience in the use of telecommunications test equipment: optical power meters (OPM – OLS), OTDR, OSA, Ethernet / IP testers; interpretation of test results
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• High-energy individual with interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate peers, and drive project to completion.

Additional Desired Qualifications

• Project Management experience.
• Experience on daily operations of a Datacenter (Diesel Generator, UPS, HVAC).
• Experience maintaining a fiber network.
