About the Role: This position works primarily as a Fiber Splicing Technician to assist in installation and repair of the fiber network, including fusion splicing, testing, and inspection. Must demonstrate the ability to test and splice fiber optics, including All-Dielectric Self Supporting (ADSS), Optical Ground Wire (OPGW), loose tube, and high-density ribbon cable. Primary responsibilities and tasks include: operation of hydraulic aerial lift to manage cable storage and set up aerial splices, cable preparation of fiber optic cable, and use of field specific tools, such as optical fusion splice machines, optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), and light source/power meter. Technician will also work with project managers and inspectors to reconcile splicing records from field installations. Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and work where conditions are cramped, and head space is limited. Must be able to work on structures up to 50 ft high. Requires above normal visual and mental alertness frequently. Must be able to climb steps and work from ladders. Note: The physical demands described above are intended to relate to the approximate physical demands of the classification.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver's license

  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience or technical training in a related field (electrical, electronics, hydraulics, mechanics, or pneumatics)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Three (3) + years of experience in fusion splicing of fiber optic cables, utilizing OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), and dealing with single mode fiber optic cables larger than 144 count

  • Experience working with and splicing high density ribbon cable

  • Experience preparing and splicing unitube OPGW (Optical Ground Wire)

  • Experience operating an aerial lift device

  • Experience working with CommScope splice enclosures

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License
