Job summary

Motion Recruitment in Richmond, VA seeks a Full-Time Fiber Optic Splicer to splice fiber cables, troubleshoot basic issues, and work from maps and blueprints. The role is a hands-on field position with daily testing and maintenance duties.

You will operate fusion splicing and optical testing gear (EXFO, Fitel, Sumitomo), perform routine tests, and implement splicing changes across diverse locations, including buried, underground, aerial, and building sites.

Qualifications

• Must have High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Minimum of two years of experience in telecommunications or related technical fields and supervisory ability.
• Experience with fusion splicing and optical testing equipment including EXFO, Fitel, Sumitomo.

Responsibilities

• Splice various types and sizes of fiber optic cable (single mode, multimode, stranded, ribbon).
• Analyze and troubleshoot basic technical problems.
• Read and interpret maps, drawings and blueprints and testing documents.
• Perform daily tests, checks and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment.
• Conduct optical continuity and conformance testing.
• Perform splicing adjustments on facilities across buried, underground, aerial and building locations.

Type: Full Time

Pay Rate: $28-$30 Per hour.

Duties

• Splice various types and sizes of fiber optic cable including single mode, multimode, stranded and ribbon
• Analyzes and troubleshoots basic technical problems or issues
• Reviews, interprets and works with various maps, drawings and blueprints and testing documents
• Performs daily tests, checks and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment
• Performs optical continuity and conformance testing
• Makes splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial and building work locations

Job Qualifications

• Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency
• Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical fields and demonstrate the ability to supervise others.
• Working knowledge of using various fusion splicing and optical testing equipment including, EXFO, Fitel, Sumitomo.
• Must possess the knowledge to identify and understand the difference between Multi-mode and Single-mode fibers; CAT 3 and CAT 5; Riser; Fiber optic; PVC, riser rated and plenum cable; Plenum and PVC environments
• Must know the universal communications color codes
• Ability to work with others and work independently
• Must have utility pole/manhole awareness - bucket truck training and confined space training moves to the front of the line
