Qualifications

• 0-1+ years experience as a fiber splicer with outside plant or system installations
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to lift up to 80 lbs
• Pass company drug testing
• Know the color code system for cable pairs
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work with internal and external customers
• Communicate effectively with vendors and customers
• Work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision
• Proficient in personal computer operations
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain a safety record
• May be required to attend and pass training; may travel as needed

Responsibilities

• Splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables with guidance
• Climb utility poles or towers and operate lift-bucket or access underground vaults
• Cut sheath from installed cable to access defective connections and strip sheath/insulation from cables
• Test (trace or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables
• Read and interpret drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc.
