Job summary

Hotwire Communications Ltd is seeking a Fiber Splicer to install and maintain fiber optic cables both underground and on utility poles, and to perform maintenance on existing cables including testing and repairs.

The role requires proficiency with fusion splicing and fiber test equipment, plus the ability to work with FTTH systems and collaborate with System Engineers on test procedures. The position includes on-call duties and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
• Excellent English communication (oral and written).
• Must have active, clean state drivers license in the hiring state.
• At least 3 years hands-on/field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment & restoration.
• Proficient with fusion splicing machine.
• Understand broadband communication, fiber optics & Metro Ethernet networks.
• Ability to use OTDRs and fiber testing equipment as required.
• SCTE certification a plus.
• Ability to work days, weekends, evenings and holidays; on-call rotation as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prep and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas and perform repairs. Proficient with fusion splicer and fiber test equipment.
• Install and maintain transmission/reception equipment for FTTH.
• Maintain network systems for private lines and determine solutions for service issues.
• Initiate test/turn-up procedures with System Engineers per company standards.
• Collect and interpret engineering docs including schematics and OTDR reports.
• Support field maintenance teams across IT and regional engineering units.
• Provide preventive maintenance for fiber network & FTTH.
• Maintain network documentation on changes and upgrades.
• Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with 3rd party providers.
• Collaborate with engineering team to ensure connections meet specs.
• Work on on-call rotation as required.
• Other duties as assigned
