Job summary

Aecon Utilities Telecommunications is seeking Fiber Optic Splicers to support our growing US portfolio of telecommunications infrastructure projects. You will splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber networks, ensuring reliable connectivity for FTTH and customer builds.

The role requires traveling across multiple markets with a focus on safety and accuracy in all daily tasks. We value hands-on expertise in OTDR testing, live fiber closures, and precise cable terminations, along with documenting

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with fiber optic splicing, including single fiber fusion, ribbon splicing, ribbonizing and cleaving.
• Proficiency in OTDR testing to identify high losses, faults and opens.
• Experience working in live fiber closures and assembling various fiber closures.
• Skilled in fiber cable termination with varied connector types.
• Ability to document power meter results to support QA and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of patch panels, pigtails, patch cords and splice boxes.
• Strong safety awareness with electrical safety and fall protection.
• Comfortable in confined spaces or manholes and abiding safety protocols.
• Strong organization and attention to detail; self-motivated.
• Effective communication with team, visitors and customers.

Responsibilities

• Splice, test, and troubleshoot FTTH and customer builds for reliable connectivity.
• Complete daily safety documentation with focus on accuracy and hazard identification.
• Document and report work daily to support project tracking and accountability.
• Inspect fiber routes and hub sites for preventative maintenance and network integrity.
• Interpret drawings to determine fiber counts and deployment needs.
• Maintain high standards of quality and attention to detail in all tasks.
