Job summary

CloudHQ in Ashburn, VA is seeking a Telecom Infrastructure Network Engineer to design and maintain physical fiber routes for campus, metro, long-haul, building, and data center connectivity. You will coordinate with utilities, civil teams, carriers, and contractors, reviewing drawings and documentation to ensure constructability and compliance.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in infrastructure management, a related engineering degree, and experience with GIS/AutoCAD and fiber-management

Qualifications

• 3+ years of technical infrastructure management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, network engineering, civil engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience designing or engineering physical fiber-optic infrastructure.
• Ability to read and produce route plans, construction drawings, schematics, schedules, and as-built records.
• Knowledge of fiber cable, pathways, splice closures, panels, termination hardware, testing concepts, and outside-plant construction methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop physical fiber route concepts and detailed designs for campus, metro, long-haul, building, and data center connectivity.
• Prepare and review route maps, construction drawings, conduit and pathway plans, handhole and manhole details, rack elevations, cable schedules, splice plans, and labeling schemes.
• Coordinate proposed routes with utilities, civil teams, property stakeholders, permitting authorities, carriers, and construction contractors.
• Perform site surveys and field validation to confirm constructability, pathway availability, access constraints, hazards, and existing conditions.
• Create engineering scopes, technical specifications, bills of material, design packages, and installation requirements.
• Review contractor submittals, requests for information, design changes, redlines, test plans, and as-built documentation.
• Maintain accurate GIS, CAD, fiber-management, and asset records, including cable segments, strands, splices, terminations, pathways, and capacity assignments.
• Support construction and commissioning by resolving field conflicts, evaluating proposed changes, and documenting approved deviations.
• Define and review acceptance testing requirements, including applicable optical loss, continuity, and reflectometry records.
