Job summary

International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) is seeking a field-oriented inspector to ensure utility installation work meets quality standards and contract requirements. You will read utility maps and blueprints, operate underground detection equipment, and coordinate with crews and subcontractors on-site.

The role emphasizes proactive communication and collaboration with field management to resolve issues and maintain safety and customer satisfaction on every project.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Experience in Telecommunications or Utility Construction/Maintenance preferred.
• Experience locating underground utilities and interpreting installation/repair work per contract.
• Ability to read utility maps and blueprints for compliance with contract requirements.
• Proficient with computers.

Responsibilities

• Inspect jobs or worksites to ensure quality meets standards and contract requirements.
• Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify underground utilities.
• Operate electronic detection equipment to locate and mark underground facilities accurately.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, crews, safety, and field management.
• Assist with resolution of customer/homeowner complaints.

Job description

• Inspect jobs and/or worksite restoration to ensure quality work performed by employees and subcontractors meets quality expectations, customer standards and contract requirements
• Read and interpret utility maps / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities
• Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits
• Contact Subcontractor for follow up on jobs (Daily)
• Coordinate activities with crews, subcontractors, Safety, and field management
• Assist with resolution of customer/homeowner complaints

Who we are looking for:

• Currently have valid driver’s license
• Prior experience within the Telecommunications or Utility Construction/Maintenance industry (preferred)
• Prior experience with installation/repair/maintenance and the location of underground utilities (preferred)
• Able to read and interpret utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, as well as blueprints to ensure work performed is according to contract requirements
• Proficient with computer skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills required
