This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Corning's Optical Communications segment is a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. As a Vision Engineer, you will lead the development, implementation, and transfer of machine vision systems - driving quality inspection, process monitoring, and data collection to support new product and process introductions. This is a hands-on, ownership-oriented role for an experienced machine vision engineer ready to take technical lead across cross-functional teams and mentor others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of machine vision applications for new products and manufacturing processes
  • Own the transfer of completed vision systems to plant teams, including documentation, training, and knowledge handoff to ensure sustained performance
  • Apply machine learning (ML) and advanced imaging techniques to automate quality inspection and process monitoring
  • Collaborate with process and engineering teams to develop solutions and provide technical direction to less experienced engineers
  • Utilize statistical analysis and optimization techniques to improve process capability and efficiency
Experiences/Education - Required
  • BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET); equivalent combination of education and 6+ years of experience in another engineering discipline will be considered
  • 6+ years of hands-on machine vision experience, including smart camera technology and/or higher-level vision systems
  • Programming experience in Python, C/C++, or C#
  • Exposure to ML methodology and its application in a manufacturing or automated production environment
Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Experience with Cognex and/or Keyence platforms, including algorithm development, industrial camera configuration, and coding
  • Experience with Halcon, Cognex Vision Pro, or LabView
  • PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) coding experience, particularly Allen Bradley ladder logic
  • Experience with electrical controls systems and practical application of process control and data analysis
  • Familiarity with Databricks, AWS platform services, or Six Sigma/DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control)
  • 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
