Team Fishel is interviewing for highly qualified Fiber Optic Technicians in our Akron , Ohio office. This is an excellent career opportunity within our Low Voltage Technologies Solutions division.

Fiber Optic Technicians will assist Crew Leaders/Senior Technicians by completing projects safely, on time, and exceeding our customer’s specifications for quality. Great teammates master their skills in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of work.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in fusion splicing fiber optic cable, splice audit verifications, voice/data/fiber installation and termination, as well as OTDR and power meter testing.

  • Flexibility with schedules, including 45-50 hour workweeks, weekends, second/third shifts, and on-call duties (with compensation).
  • Reliability—being punctual and minimizing downtime for customers.
  • Professional appearance and excellent customer service skills.
  • A drive to learn quickly and pride in continuous improvement.
Duties
  • Splicing various types and sizes of fiber optic cables, including single mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Interpreting maps, drawings, blueprints, and testing documents.
  • Performing tests, checks, and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment.
  • Conducting optical continuity and conformance testing.
  • Making splicing adjustments on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial, and building locations.
Job Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in telecommunications or a related technical field, with supervisory ability.
  • Knowledge of fusion splicing and optical testing equipment (e.g., Fujikura, GN Net Test, EXFO, Fitel, Sumitomo).
  • Understanding of fiber types, cabling standards, and environment classifications.
  • Ability to identify color codes for communications wiring.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Utility pole/manhole awareness, bucket truck, and confined space training preferred.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to operate company vehicle.
