Job summary

Cable Services Company, Inc. in Wheeling, IL, is seeking a Fiber Splicer to install, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic systems.

The role requires frequent travel, overnight hours, and weekend on-call for restoration, with project hours varying by weather and deadlines. Responsibilities include splicing in air, underground, indoors and outdoors, reading maps and schematics, operating lifting equipment, completing documentation, and staying safety compliant.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of fiber optic splice experience across cable types.
• HS diploma or GED.
• Experience using bucket trucks at heights over 30–40 ft.
• Proficiency with fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters and fiber identifiers.
• Ability to distinguish colors.
• Experience reading design maps and fiber schematics.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift/move up to 80 pounds.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic system
• Prep and hang fiber optic enclosures, nodes and related equipment
• Route, splice and terminate fiber in equipment racks at central offices, hub sites or inside buildings
• Work with OSP Project Manager's to perform fusion splicing as directed
• Read design maps, fiber schematics and basic electronic designs
• Operate aerial lift and related equipment
• On-call for emergency restoration
• Communicate with management on workload status
• Perform routine construction tasks as needed
• Complete required company documentation (timesheet, truck report, expense report)
• Be responsible for company vehicle, tools, and equipment
• Perform work safely and follow safety policies
• Other duties as assigned to help team complete projects
