Job summary

TEKsystems seeks a Fiber Optic Construction Technician for contract work in Omaha, NE. The role involves installing aerial and buried fiber, splicing and terminating cables, testing signals, and maintaining documentation. You will operate heavy machinery and follow OSHA safety requirements onsite.

The position is fully onsite in Omaha with a pay range of $30.00-$40.00 per hour, plus standard listed benefits. Applicants must be prepared for fieldwork and compliance with site safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Experience installing and maintaining fiber optic networks.
• Ability to operate heavy construction equipment safely.
• Familiarity with splice closures, OTDR testing, and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Install aerial and buried fiber cables per maps and blueprints.
• Install vaults, pedestals, handholes, and splice enclosures.
• Operate trenchers, cable plows, directional drills, and bucket trucks.
• Splice fibers with fusion splicers inside enclosures.
• Terminate lines to panels and ODFs.
• Test signal strength and locate faults using OTDR.
• Verify continuity of installed links.
• Update GIS maps and as-built records.
• Restore sites to original condition after work.
