Job summary

JDH Contracting Inc. in Plainfield, IN seeks a Fiber Optic OSP Field Engineer to support design, coordination and field verification of fiber projects with ISPs, municipalities and utilities.

You will perform surveys, route verification, and constructability reviews, ensuring compliance with fiber standards and safety while building accurate as-built records. Role requires hands-on field experience with aerial and underground fiber, pole access coordination, and familiarity with NESC/ NEC

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in fiber optic OSP construction or field engineering.
• Experience with ISPs, telecom carriers, or utility providers.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform field engineering duties for aerial and underground fiber OSP projects.
• Conduct site surveys, route verification, and constructability reviews.
• Verify proper installation of aerial fiber (strand, lash, pole attachments, clearance requirements).
• Verify proper installation of underground fiber (conduit, duct, direct-buried, handholes, vaults).
• Coordinate with utility companies for pole access, make-ready work, and underground utility conflicts.
• Use underground utility locating equipment and interpret utility markings.
• Review and understand utility locates, as-builts, and existing infrastructure records.
• Ensure adherence to safety regulations and standard fiber practices.
• Support ISP network builds across backbone, distribution, and access networks.
• Maintain field documentation and as-built records.
