Job summary

Abacus Technology Corporation seeks a skilled fiber optic technician to install, terminate, and test fiber and copper cabling for LAN and communications systems. The role requires experience with splicing, testing, and following industry standards, with the ability to read technical drawings and operate safely in varied environments.

Applicants must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance; a BICSI Installer certification is required within six months of hire.

Qualifications

2+ years experience in installation and maintenance for copper and fiber cables.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings including infrastructure design and splicing diagrams.
Familiar with test equipment and cable testing procedures.
Knowledge of safety precautions related to cable splicing.

Responsibilities

Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cable per work order.
Perform cabling, power, grounding of equipment using safety practices.
Prepare and install connectors for LAN and automated communications systems.
Utilize LAN testers, fiber testers, and other continuity testers.
Perform cable maintenance: splicing, termination, transmission on fiber and copper.
Create and maintain database and modify program contents for new data.
Determine installation and maintenance methods using standards, drawings and wiring diagrams.
