Job summary

The Jefferson County School District 509J in Madras, Oregon seeks an Assistant Ag Advisor to support FFA activities, mentor students, and assist with agricultural education programs. This role focuses on leadership development, project mentoring, and coordinating in-school and after-school activities.

Working with a dynamic team, you will help plan events, support competitions, and liaise with students, parents and community partners to advance agricultural education in a small Central Oregon

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree aligned to position.
• Valid TSPC endorsements, or ability to obtain such.
• Demonstrated ability to relate positively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents, and the community.
• Have standards of moral character as required of all Oregon licensed educators (OAR 584-005-0005).

Responsibilities

• Assist the FFA Advisor in planning, organizing, and executing FFA chapter meetings, events, and activities.
• Assist the FFA Advisor in providing guidance and mentorship to FFA members, helping them develop leadership skills, agricultural education and personal growth.
• Assist the FFA Advisor with Educational Programs in developing and implementing the agricultural education programs that align with FFA goals and curriculum standards.
• Assist the FFA Advisor in coordinating participation in FFA competitions, judging events, and career development events, ensuring members are prepared and supported.
• Assist the FFA Advisor to facilitate Student Leadership Development: Assist in fostering leadership qualities among FFA members through training, workshops, and hands-on experiences.
• Assist the FFA Advisor with Chapter Finances: Assist in managing the FFA chapter budget, fundraising activities, and financial records by FFA guidelines and school policies.
• Assist the FFA Advisor with promoting FFA activities and achievements by maintaining effective communication with FFA members, parents, school administration, agricultural industry partners, and community members.
• Assist the FFA Advisor in guiding and supporting FFA Members in their supervised agricultural experiences and individual or group projects, providing feedback and encouragement.

POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Ag Advisor role supports our chapter in fostering agricultural education and leadership development among students. Responsibilities include assisting with even coordination, mentoring FFA members in their projects and competitions, and promoting participation in educational programs. The position requires strong communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and community stakeholders. Candidates should possess a passion for agriculture and youth development and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic educational environment. This told offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of young agricultural leaders within our school community.

Our program specializes in plant/crop science, animal science, leadership, and veterinarian science. Our program facilities include a 40' x 75' shop space, a 35' x 65' greenhouse, and a brand new 26 acre school farm currently in development that will eventually house working crop production areas, a livestock facility, and mobile classroom. Our equipment includes an 8' x 10' walk-in cooler, a floral cooler, cutting table and meat processingequipment,ultrasound machine, as well as John Deere and Mahindra tractors.

The FFA program has a supportive and active alumni chapter that helps the students attend state & national conventions, field days, and other activities. Our students take livestock projects to the fair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Assist the FFA Advisor in planning, organizing, and executing FFA chapter meetings, events, and activities such as conferences, workshops, volunteer efforts, competitions, and overnight trips.
• Assist the FFA Advisor in providing guidance and mentorship to FFA members, helping them develop leadership skills, agricultural education and personal growth.
• Assist the FFA Advisor with Educational Programs in developing and implementing the agricultural education programs that align with FFA goals and curriculum standards.
• Assist the FFA Advisor in coordinating participation in FFA competitions, judging events, and career development events, ensuring members are prepared and supported. Assist the FFA Advisor in scheduling and implementing after-school practices. Assist the FFA Advisor in helping to host, recruit judges, and score at contests.
• Assist the FFA Advisor to facilitate Student Leadership Development: Assist in fostering leadership qualities among FFA members through training, workshops, and hands-on experiences.
• Assist the FFA Advisor with Chapter Finances: Assist in managing the FFA chapter budget, fundraising activities, and financial records by FFA guidelines and school policies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE (Minimum Qualifications)

• Valid TSPC endorsements, or ability to obtain such.
• Demonstrated ability to relate positively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents, and the community.
• Demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for employment.
• Have standards of moral character as required of all Oregon licensed educators (OAR 584-005-0005).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Current JCSD Teacher
• Masters Degree aligned to position.
• 3 years of experience teaching aligned to position in a public school setting.
• Possess and maintain a valid First Aid Card
• Bilingual Spanish.
