Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician for the Fertility Clinic to collect, prepare, analyze, and transport semen samples in support of diagnostic testing and fertility treatments.

This role requires patient interaction, precise lab handling, and adherence to CLIA, CAP, and OSHA guidelines. Strong documentation and teamwork with clinical staff are essential to ensure timely specimen delivery.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biotechnology, or related field (or equivalent combination of related experience)
• 1+ year of basic laboratory experience in a clinical, medical, or research setting
• Familiarity with microscopy and specimen-handling techniques
• Certification such as MLT or MLS (ASCP) or equivalent training preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide clear instructions to patients on semen collection procedures.
• Ensure proper identification, labeling, and chain-of-custody for all specimens.
• Perform semen analysis and preparation including liquefaction, concentration, motility, and morphology assessments.
• Prepare samples for IUI or other clinical procedures per protocols.
• Maintain records of sample quality, processing steps, and observations.
• Package and transport prepared semen samples to partner hospitals or clinics with proper safety and temperature-control practices.
• Coordinate delivery timing with clinical teams to meet procedure schedules.
• Document transport activities to ensure traceability and compliance.
• Follow laboratory safety procedures and aseptic handling standards.
• Conduct routine equipment checks, cleaning, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.
• Maintain inventory and notify when reordering is needed.
• Comply with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and internal quality systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned
