Fertigation Technician
Job Type: Full-Time; Non-Exempt
Shift: Tuesday - Saturday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Starting Hourly Rate: $19.50
Location: Litchfield, IL
The Fertigation Technician works in conjunction with the Fertigation Supervisor to oversee and implement all irrigation and fertigation activities across the entire grow. The technician may also assist in the garden with Cultivation Technicians as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Check and balance EC & pH of stock tanks according to company SOPs.
- Clean and sanitize nutrient tanks, pumps, and filters as needed.
- Maintain and ensure irrigation and fertigation equipment is in good working order.
- Comply with company and product label safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Take nutrient samples for analysis.
- Maintain and ensure proper storage and sanitation of all tools and equipment.
- Keep meticulous records of all nutrient use.
- Work closely with the grow team to implement and maintain the irrigation/fertigation plan.
- Maintain inventory of all fertilizers on site.
- Ensure fertilizer concentrate tanks are filled adequately.
- Respond to system alarms and diagnose/troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively.
- Perform regular calibration of nutrient testing instruments.
- Install and maintain general irrigation equipment such as valves, emitters, drip stakes, tubing, and bench lines.
- Monitor soil moisture content of the crop and obtain water samples for testing.
- Work variable shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
Qualifications
- 21 years or older.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergencies as required.
- Hard worker and team player.
- Understanding of state and company rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Analytical skills to identify potential plant health problems.
- Clean, organized work environment.
- Physical aptitude for manual labor in a commercial grow environment.
- Accountability, proactive behavior, and strong attention to detail.
- Agricultural or green industry experience preferred; degree in Horticulture, Plant Science or related field desirable.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and hydroponic solution formulation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent time-management and prioritization skills.
Physical Requirements
- Requires sitting, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Must stand for extended periods, lift objects regularly, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Requires close visual focus.
- Requires repeated use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate small objects.
- Must lift and carry up to 50 lb.
- Must pass a respirator fit test.
Facility Environment
- Exposure to dust, pollen, and plant pathogens.
- Exposure to cleaning solvents such as isopropyl alcohol.
- Daily use of provided PPE (masks, hair nets, respirators, etc.).
- Exposure to loud noises from equipment.
- Exposure to CO2 manufacturing procedures at OSHA-approved levels.
- High stress tolerance, adaptable, and able to work in a changing environment.
